Opposed skill rolls?

Post by foleypt on Fri Sep 12, 2014 9:56 pm

Any idea how to do opposed skill rolls?

i.e. Spotting/Notice vs Stealth

The rules don't mention it, I have two ideas

either 1) both characters roll and add ability and skill modifier and the active skill has to beat the number achieved by the passive skill to succeed (in this case spot the hider
or 2) the skill and ability modifier of the passive (e.g. stealth) skill becomes the minus taken away from the active characters roll. The active character partially succeeds on a 15, 16 or 17 and totally succeeds on a 18

2) seems more SQ UK and allows for a partial success but gives the hider a clear advantage? I will most likely just do 1)

Is anyone doing this differently?

The person with initiate goes first. If he succeeds he hides. If the second person try a spot hidden the GM must assign a modifier (page 35).

So Dai-the-killer (Welsh serial Killer) try to hide from Mack the Knife, Dan rolls in and goes first he rolls an 18 and hides in a barn. Mack goes in and has a look. It's dark and there is a number of places to hide. GM assigns a -5 modifier to finding him

so I would have an int roll first.

That's said I will give it more thought
